Jolly Archers Open Western 2007 The Jolly Archers
    of Houghton & Wyton
Jolly Archers' Summer League

The aim of the competition is for an Archer to try to get the best score they can in relation to their current handicap, and to use this score to determine the outcome of a head to head competition for league points.

The competition

  1. Participating archers will be allocated to groups depending on their club handicap determined on the last day of the month preceeding the commencement of the competition.
  2. The number of archers participating will govern the number of groups.
  3. Each group will comprise of 5-6 Archers.
  4. Group names will be Gold, Red, Blue... etc. Divisions may be necessary.
  5. The lowest handicapped archers will be in the Gold Group, and the other archers grouped according to the increasing handicap score.
  6. League positions will be determined by the outcome of head to head matches which will produce league scores and opportunities for bonus league points.
  7. Bonus league points will be awarded for archery excellence and calculated by the league organisers with weighting based on the difficulty of achieving a par handicap score.
  8. All Archers in a group will have head to head matches with all the members of their group.
  9. All head to head matches will be chosen from GNAS recognised rounds. Both archers will need to agree to the number of arrows based on time available.
  10. The higher handicapped archer in a head to head will chose the distances for the round.
  11. The Archer’s handicap at the start of the round will be used throughout all matches in that round, even if their club handicap improves.
  12. After the first complete round of head to head matches there will be promotion and relegation of one Archer from the top and bottom of the group (except the highest and lowest ranked in the league).
  13. Handicaps for the second round of league matches will be determined by the club handicap of an archer determined on the last day of the month preceeding the commencement of the second round.
  14. The competition will conclude at the end of the second round of league head to head matches.
  15. A Trophy will be awarded for the league winner, medals for the top archer in each group and for the Archer who progresses up the most league places.

Registration

All archers will register their intention to participate with the league organisers by the last day of the month preceeding the commencement of the competition.

All archers must commit to complete the two group rounds of head to heads (8 matches in all for a group containing 5 Archers or 10 matches if the groups are 6 Archers) within the specified timeframes.

Head to Heads

Participating archers will be issued with a Match Schedule at the commencement of the first round of the competition and again at the commencement of the second round.

Where ever possible, matches will be completed within 10 days of the match’s initiating date.

Pairs of Archers can decide when in that period they are going to shoot their match.

Matches that cannot be completed within the allotted time, for whatever reason, (e.g. holidays, weather, sickness) must be referred to the league organisers in a timely way for rescheduling.

All matches will be shot and scores recorded under the existing club rules using a League Scoresheet.

All scoresheets will be submitted to the Club Records Officer and will be considered towards your handicap in the normal way.

All matches will be shot at the Jubilee Park Field.

Scoring

All Participating archers will record the match score on a League Scoresheet.

To determine the outcome of the match and calculate league points the following system will be used:-

Using the GNAS Handicap Table (available in the clubhouse), calculate your handicap level based on your round score.

Match points will be awarded in the following way.

Each archer determines their match points (see example below)

0 points for 5 handicap positions or more below actual handicap

1 point for 4 handicap positions below actual handicap

2 points for 3 handicap positions below actual handicap

3 points for 2 handicap positions below actual handicap

4 points for 1 handicap position below actual handicap

5 points for attaining actual handicap

6 points for 1 handicap position above actual handicap

7 points for 2 handicap positions above actual handicap, etc (i.e. one point for each further level of handicap achieved)

Archer’s match score = 471 therefore 3 match points

Thus between the two Archers there should be a football style score e.g. 4-3, 1-1, 0-1.

An outright win will earn you 3 league points – lose the match you score 0

A draw either scoring or no-score draw earns 1 league point each

(Any problems working out the match outcome, contact the League organisers)

It is the ultimate responsibility of the competing Archers to ensure score sheets reach the League Records Officer in a timely way.

The League Table

League points and positions will be confirmed and published by the League Records Officer.

League tables will be updated every 10 days during a round of matches.

League positions would be based on the aggregate of League Points, in the event of a tied position the higher and lower position will be determined by an aggregate of golds then by the number of hits.

Trouble Shooting!

Any problems, particularly those of scheduling your matches should be referred to the League Organisers who will try to facilitate a resolution

In the rare event of a ‘no show’ for a match, the League Organisers will arbitrate and attempt to resolve the issues regarding the match – this may result in all league points being awarded to one or other archer

As this is a new event the Organisers reserve the right to make minor adjustments to the league system and rules to facilitate a positive outcome for the competition

-We wish you all the best of Luck and enjoy your shooting-
